If you really want GOOD, then acquire a Toshiba with around 2GB of RAM. Visit some of the Back to College specials at retail stores. Be sure to check stores that hold a NO HASSLE return policy, in casing you buy a DOG. Visit Staples, Costco or even Wal-Mart.

Good luck and Happy Computing!
toshiba
Best battery natural life for computers are lenovo thinkpads. Macbooks and Dell's battery lives are much poorer.

For your smaller quantity resource intensive work, i'd suggest getting a laptop with XP, 1 GB of Ram, I don`t know a 64 MB graphics card. Nothing too expensive, since you won't be using it.
any Acer ussually comes with 3 GB of RAm
That laptop is surefire for your use. It is enough for internet and IM. The push is also perfect for your use. When it comes to Hard-Drive if you necessitate to store a lot of facts like mp3s, projects etc. next you need profoundly of space. When it comes to battery it should enjoy a good standby time.

Hope i help!
The best laptop is a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092. That computer doesn't look like a devout one.
