Higher RPMs process faster performance, but also more mobile use if you are using a laptop. As for your question give or take a few it wearing out faster, no that is not really a big concern.

edit: no, its designed to run faster so its not a problem.

Think of it similar to your car. The faster the wheel go round(RPM) the faster you walk right? Same principle applies to hard drives.
I instinctively have an 80GB 7200RPM sturdy drive in my laptop and it flies.
