Hello,
(ANS) if my memory serves me I deduce Sony's VIAO range of laptops are amongst some on the lightest thinnest laptops available of the marketplace but you will probably need moderately deep pockets as flimsiness comes at a price. See Sony's website for the Viao's range. http://www.sony.com
**DELL also do own some mid-low priced laptops which have an stunning lack of weightiness, again see DELL's website. (previously Inspiron laptops) I think the up-to-the-minute range is very soon called Vostro look resembling it might be of interest to you?

14 and under is best if you are going to be packing it in the region of a lot. You wouldn't feel a 15' wide 1' tacky box would be heavy, but lug it through the airport, though the guarantee line and support off the plane after 8 hours or more and it will appear like your carrying a locked!
I would say that 2 kg and beneath is considered lightweight.
Anything under 2kg I construe. Sony Vaio do a nice one for 1.19 kg.
